I’ve never been on a seaplane before, so this was most definitely the raddest way to kick off the best dream holiday in the Maldives.

Everything on this trip was pre-arranged by the agents I booked through, from transfers to complimentary refreshments while you wait at each stop. On arrival in Malé, you’re greeted by a resort hospitality agent who arranges the transfer of your bags through to Maldivian airlines, gives you a bunch of complimentary vouchers for snacks and drinks, and escorts you through each waiting area during the transfer to the seaplane.

The flight from Malé to Ookolhufinolhu was a beautiful, monsoon-tinged mix of intoxicating ocean and cloud landscapes in every shade of blue imaginable, punctuated by beams of sunlight teasing through the edges of what looks very much like a dream. And the pilots fly barefoot. Because island.

I can’t believe I’m finally here. I already love this place and all I’ve done is arrive.
