The second dive of my SSI Advanced Adventurer course with Manta Dive was technically the “Deep Dive”, but it actually ended up being a pretty good example for the “Tides, Waves and Currents” speciality which I did the following day and was very handy to refer back to. You’ll notice Victor (my super epic instructor on this course) give a signal for cold current in this video, and if you know what you’re looking for, you can also see the cold current flickering in the footage at times.

I was (as newbies generally always are) surprised by how much shorter this dive was because of the extended depth, although we had some relatively strong current at the beginning of the dive which shaved quite a bit off the dive time too. It was, nonetheless, a super fun first deep dive.

TOP TIP: If you’re planning to dive on the Gili islands, get in touch with Manta Dive. The dive centre is awesome, with a professional team, a damn fine breakfast, and super cool accommodation.
