After having knee surgery last year and being forced to take a 7 month break from diving, I decided that the best way to kick off this adventure would be to get straight back into the water as quickly as possible!

I booked my SSI Advanced Adventurer diving course with Manta Dive on Gili Trawangan and, after a quick overnight stop in Bali on route, headed straight to the island.

The first dive of my advanced course was “Perfect Buoyancy”, which I’d really been looking forward to mastering. It was a super chilled and beautiful first dive in the Gilis, complete with octopus (which always makes my day) and an upside down dive buddy who clearly doesn’t need any buoyancy practice… and I totes rocked my zen float. High fives self!

One day I’ll get clear footage of my favourite little octo-alien NOT hiding under a dark rock.

TOP TIP: If you’re planning to dive on the Gili islands, get in touch with Manta Dive. The dive centre is awesome, with a professional team, a damn fine breakfast, and super cool accommodation.
